Hmm.... This is just going to be a short entry. Went to Cheshire Home(Home for physically disabled) on Sat. I don't know how did I end up there in the first place cause I really didn't intend to go since it was like not planned. But I still tagged along with the rest(representing church in place of MPM) and went there to accompany the residents there.

When I reached there, I didn't really know what to do, since it was like the second time I was there. The residents seems to be quite happy to see people there to accompany them, though I was asked why the church did not go last month and sort of quite pissed as it was a hot and humid day.

I did not make much of the first approach to the residents as I was irritated. But then since I'm already there, I had no choice bt to reach out to them. But as time goes by, I slowly got use to the residents and before long, I was talking to them in the languages which I was fluent in, mainly teochew, hokkien, english and chinese(it pays to know more language. muahahaha) I soon was becoming like their friend within the short amount of time I was there. Talking to them and helping them with their things.

Then it dawn on me that they are also quite lonely staying in the home for most of their life and doing the same thing without having much freedom to move around and travel around Singapore like the other folks around. Having to stay in the home because of their difficulties in moving about. But it is volunteers who take time off to help out at the home who make their day interesting and a company in an otherwise boring life. Similar to a caged.

This left me thinking and having to acknowledge the less fortunate people in the society. I don't know how to explain the meaning, but it just left a very deep impression in my mind. I wonder if I should make a habit of visiting the home if I'm free in that month. I guess to us normal people it may mean nothing, but to residents there, it is volunteers who make their otherwise boring lives interesting.

Here is a line which I had gained. "I can make a difference in another person's life no matter how small the effort"
